The GLOVES UP, GUNS DOWN PROGRAM, a joint effort between the H.E.L.P.E.R. Foundation and Voices of Our Youth, is dedicated to combating violence in schools, streets, and communities. By highlighting peace, empathy, and mutual respect, the initiative aims to establish a non-aggression pact to foster a safe and harmonious environment.
The program's key principles include commitments to non-violence, peaceful conflict resolution, and the promotion of respect and understanding. Participants pledge to prioritize peaceful conflict resolution, reject causing harm, and uphold values of empathy and respect. These principles are crafted to decrease conflicts, build trust, nurture positive relationships, and instill respect within communities.
Currently, participants are actively involved in the H.E.L.P.E.R. Foundation's 13-week Impact Sessions within a school setting. These sessions concentrate on youth development, encouraging pro-social behavior, engaging in group activities, building team bonds, and making positive lifestyle choices. Additionally, the program addresses overcoming childhood trauma, mediating conflicts, managing emotions, understanding the importance of self-determination, interventions and prevention strategies for gang involvement, and breaking self-fulfilling prophecies.
A distinctive feature of the program is the opportunity for participants to resolve disputes in a boxing ring rather than through street violence. Celebrity boxers, who are familiar with the challenges faced by at-risk youth, oversee these matches to showcase how positive conflict resolution can positively influence life trajectories. Rematches are also available to ensure community safety and prosperity.
To further motivate participants, efforts are underway to raise funds to provide each individual with a cash stipend. This incentive is designed to support and motivate their participation in proactive peacekeeping endeavors.
